Universal Orlando Updates Plans for Attractions

Big changes are afloat at Universal Orlando.

Literally, since the new Superstar Parade, to be held daily starting in the spring, will feature floats with characters from Despicable Me, Hop, Nickelodeon’s Dora & Diego, and SpongeBob SquarePants. And if you’re interested in auditioning for the parade, check out the details here.

Also planned is a new Blue Man Group show, which will open in February. There will be a new environment and new technology with large light balls toss within the audience and oversized iPad-type screens.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will be revamped with upgraded technology and special effects. Guests will spend more time in each scene and there will be a cameo by Spider-Man creator Stan Lee.

And then there’s the much-anticipated Despicable Me ride with the added tag “Minion Mayhem.” Characters from the movie will turn riders into minions in the 3-D experience, which will open this summer.

Finally, weary visitors will be able to relax at the end of the day at a nighttime lagoon show, “100 Years of Movie Memories,” narrated by Morgan Freeman. Clips from Universal’s most evocative films will be projected onto large waterfall screens.

In addition, work is progressing on Hollywood Drive-In Golf course at CityWalk, a 36-hole miniature golf course set in the drive-in era, and a Nickelodeon store with a SpongeBob SquarePants theme. Theme park aficionados are still awaiting word on what will replace Jaws, which closed in early January.

Orlando Theme Park News has posted photos of the work under way.
