Universal Orlando has finally confirmed that Harry Potter and friends are indeed expanding to Universal Studios via the Hogwarts Express. The new attraction, whose construction is well underway, is titled The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. It’s expected to open next year, probably in the summer.

Here’s Seth Kubersky’s take on the announcement, describing it as “the worst-kept secret in the theme park industry.” He’s co-author of Universal Orlando 2013: The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Theme Park Adventure.

Media outlets such as and have been documenting the attraction’s progress for months.

According to Universal’s press release,

…the world’s first centrally themed, multi-park experience expands The Wizarding World of Harry Potter across both Universal Orlando theme parks and allows Universal’s creative team to bring an unparalleled vision to this unique project. The new area will bring to life some of the experiences and places found in and around London in the Harry Potter books and films, offering brand-new adventures for fans and theme park guests from around the world.

As expected, the new attraction will have a London theme, featuring shops, a restaurant, and a marquee attraction based on Gringotts bank, all inspired by fiction and film. J.K. Rowling has expressed her support for the project.

Officials assured expectant fans that additional details about Diagon Alley will be released over time. As you might guess, however, the theme park bloggers will keep on top of all the details.

Plans were also recently announced for a WWHP attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Universal Orlando: The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Theme Park Adventure provided the first guidebook account of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter when it opened in June 2010. You can order the current version of the book, Universal Orlando 2013, here for just $8.50.
