New Animal Care Center at Busch Gardens Tampa

Starting Jan. 23, visitors to Busch Gardens will be able to get an in-depth look at the treatment provided to the animals there.

The new Animal Care Center will provide information on nutrition and treatments, X-rays and surgeries, much of which will be able to be observed by guests. Officials say that no other zoological facility can offer this type of experience.

Educators at the nutrition center will demonstrate the planning and preparation of diets, while at the treatment center, guests can view check-ups, treatments, and surgeries, and even talk to the veterinarians. Cameras placed over the exam tables will allow them to watch procedures on monitors. In the clinical lab, where staff members perform various tests on samples collected from the animals, guests can view exactly what the staff views under the microscope, via camera.

Animal recovery and holding rooms are also a part of the 16,000-square-foot facility, which replaces the rhino exhibit in the Nairobi area
