Harry Potter is Safe

Now it’s Comcast that wants to Blackstone’s 50 percent stake in Universal Orlando.

Back in March Blackstone offered up its share to NBC Universal, which owns the other half of the park. However, Comcast now owns NBC Universal and the deal would make the theme park owned a single corporation.

The anticipated going price could be between $1 billion and $1.5 billion.

That could buy a lot of Butterbeer. Which may have been in jeopardy if the park was no longer owned in part by NBC. However, according to financial documents, Universal Orlando has taken steps to ensure that licensing for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would continue regardless of the new half-owner. The license is held by Warner Bros., which owns the Harry Potter franchise.

Opening in June 2010, WWHP has contributed significantly to the increase in attendance at Universal Orlando. Park attendance jumped by 46 percent during the final quarter of last year
