‘Dine with Shamu’ Returns to Seaworld

Details are a bit fuzzy, but Theme Park Foodie reports that SeaWorld Orlando’s Dine with Shamu has reopened.

SeaWorld Orlando’s Shamu dining experience closed in February 2010, after the tragic death of orca trainer Dawn Brancheau during a Dine with Shamu show. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has spent the last two years implementing new safety measures for its trainers. The pool where Dine with Shamu is held only recently reopened after a multi-million dollar installment of a rising floor that can lift all trainers and whales out of the water in the case of another emergency.

Making reservations is touch and go and the menu is unconfirmed, just that it’s an all-you-can-eat  buffet, billed as the park’s premier dining experience. The old menu, as reported in SeaWorld, Discovery Cove & Aquatica by Kelly Monaghan with Seth Kubersky, covered the usual chicken, beef, seafood, veggies, and vegetarian main courses. A separate buffet catered to kids.

Theme Park Foodie expects that the menu will be similar to the recently revamped menu at SeaWorld San Diego. The cost is $50 for adults and $25 for kids. For that amount

…guests can expect to be treated as Shamu’s VIP guests throughout the duration of the meal. SeaWorld’s whale trainers and members of the Shamu family will entertain and educate throughout the course of the meal. The Dine with Shamu experience features a unique “show” that cannot be seen at any other time.

Seaworld’s reservation line is 888-800-5447. Foodie says to call back in a few days if the operator says the experience is not being offered. Or click here for SeaWorld’s dining options; details about Dine with Shamu should appear soon.
