Update: Universal officials announced June 13 that Despicable Me Minion Mayew will open July 2.

Here’s Seth Kubersky’s video clip of the grand opening.

Theme park guests are testing out Universal Studio Orlando’s newest attraction, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem attraction prior to official launch, according to

Kubersky, our man in Orlando, took part in a sneak peek of the attraction and posted his thoughts on his Artpinions & Attractionalysis blog, along with photos taken while waiting in line. No recording is allowed in the attraction itself.

Kubersky observes that Despicable Me is an improvement over the Jimmy Neutron ride it replaces. He says it’s “a less intense, more juvenile version” of the Simpsons ride.

“There is no way right to know if the ride will run or not on a given day, so don’t buy admission just to ride it until its official opening is announced, ” he adds.

It’s the third in a series of new attractions, joining Universal’s Superstar Parade and Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular, which opened last month.

According to Universal, visitors see several videos featuring characters from the movie before taking a 3-D “virtual” adventure through Gru’s “super-villain laboratory.” Guests exit the ride into an interactive area where minions and team members dance to music from the film.

Testing has been underway for some time, at least since the beginning of May. The exact opening date has not been announced by Universal.
