Blastaway Beach at Wet ‘n Wild opens

Wet ‘n Wild will open its new Blastaway Beach attraction to the public for the first time Saturday at 10 a.m., says Theme Park Ranger Dewayne Bevil of the Orlando Sentinel. It’s the first expansion at the longstanding International Drive water park in four years.

He adds:

Blastaway Beach, which centers on a 60-foot sand castle, features 15 slides, two pools and 160 soakers, water cannons, jets and the like. Covering about 1 acre, the water playground will be the largest one in Florida, Wet ‘n Wild officials say.

The attraction is built to be family-friendly, including a single entrance/exit to create a secluded environment within the park.

Saturday’s opening ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. Elementary-school students who were winners in an art contest, plus their families, are attending as special guests.

Plus, the first 35 families to enter the park Saturday will get free wristbands for an all-you-can-eat barbecue.  The significance of 35? It’s the age of Wet ‘n Wild, which the World Waterpark Association considers to be the world’s first water park.

Admission starts are $48.99 for a single day adult ticket. More information:
