Like A Land Remembered, Cala Bella is not the sort of place to visit if you’re on a tight budget, but if $40 pasta dishes don’t make you faint, you will no doubt find the food to your taste.
Bella’s Bar serves as something of an antechamber to the restaurant proper. It’s a nice place to sip a fine wine or perhaps share an appetizer platter with a group of friends. Once inside the restaurant, you will receive the kind of attentive service that the prices should lead you to expect.
Pizzas are among the least expensive items on the menu, which is surprising since they are rather exotic as pizzas go, featuring ingredients like Florida goat cheese and lobster with smoked mozzarella. Among starters, Cala Bella’s version of ribollita, a Tuscan bean and bread soup, is worth sampling.
Entrees include the fearsomely expensive Seafood Pescatore and baked scallops with focaccia bread crumbs and truffle butter. The somewhat more extensive selection of meat dishes includes Asiago Chicken with fried wild mushrooms, a Pork Porterhouse, and a 14-ounce veal chop. Contorni, or side dishes, are extra. Desserts are as elaborate as the entrees.
The restaurant adds an automatic 18% service charge for groups of six or more.
