Mad Cow Theater
105 South Magnolia Street, Orlando 32801
This is Orlando’s version of New York’s Off Broadway or London’s Fringe. Mad Cow has moved several times over the years, each time getting a little bigger and a lot better.
Their new home boasts two intimate theaters in an attractive modern downtown building. Stage Left is the larger space at 100 seats; Stage Right is just half that size. The company has now achieved professional status, employing both Equity and non-Equity performers in a ten-play season of new works and modern classics.
The selection of plays is eclectic, everything from Ibsen’s Ghosts to My Fair Lady. Other recent productions include The Laramie Project and As Thousands Cheer. Although the theaters are comfortable, don’t expect Broadway-style production values. The budget for these shows ranges from the minuscule to the modest. But for those with an adventuresome taste in theater-going, Mad Cow will be well worth checking out. Tickets range from $14 to $24, with discounts for seniors and students and some “pay what you wish” nights thrown in for good measure.
