This is Busch Gardens Tampa's ultimate animal encounter experience, not to mention the most costly. But the $250 you pay for this six-and-a-half hour tour will probably seem worth it to animal and zoo fanatics. Because there is hard work involved, this one has some additional restrictions.
Participants must be at least 13 years old and 52 inches tall and able to lift 15 pounds and climb a flight of stairs. You have to follow instructions, too, something not every tourist seems capable of doing.
Your time is divided between caring for and feeding giraffes and antelopes in the morning and birds in the afternoon, all in the Serengeti Plain area of the park. Reservations are required, and must be made at least a week in advance.
If the Keeper for a Day program is too much, there are shorter "Keeper Experiences" available focusing on either elephants or tigers and orangutans. The 90-minute tours, which have the same restrictions as the Keeper for a Day program, cost $200 for a group of up to six participants, bringing the cost down to $33 each if you can gather five other friends; 24-hour advance reservations are required..
